I had a Radio Shack Modle 100 for several years and carried it with me everywhere. It was a great for basic word processing, check book balancing and scheduling. For my purposes laptops only went downhill after that. They were too klunky, heavy and expensive.
I did a lot of research before purchasing the HP mini. One of the factors that influenced my decision is that HP has redeemed itself as a computer company. Compared to other netbooks I tried the HP felt solid and well built. I saw a couple of reviews that criticized the HP's large battery compartment. For me that has not been a problem, and I love the battery's long life. Even though my vision is on the poor side, the 10 inch screen is very readable. I just move the screen closer and don't even notice the size.
Like the old Modle 100, I can carry the HP mini 210 everywhere I go. Having a laptop is fun again.

I was a little reluctant to buy a netbook...thinking that the keyboard and screen would be small and
difficult to see and operate. This is definitely not the case. I adjusted quickly to a slightly smaller
keyboard and the display's resolution is vivid and bright. I am a real estate appraiser and use the netbook
in the field to access real estate data and to connect to my office or home computer with "log me in free".
Works great on both counts. Battery life is as advertised and between this and my smart phone I have never felt
so "connected".

I purchased 4 of these. Amazon recommends under "Bought Frequently Together" a case and some additional memory.
I bought both. Case is nice. The memory suggested was Crucial 2GB 256Mx64PC2-5300 CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory
Unfortunately, even though the documentation seems to claim that PC5300 memory is supported, none of the machines would
boot with this memory. I tried multiple sticks to confirm. What comes with the machine is PC6400 memory, so I ordered 4 sticks of the same Crucial memory, except the faster speed. Sure enough, the machines all booted fine.
One other thing to note is these HP minis change the top row of keys. Rather than the usual press the Fn key to get at alternate functions like turning off wireless, changing volume, brightness, etc, for this model you press Fn to access F1-F12. Just something different, you eventually get used to it.
The 1024x600 screen would be nice if it were larger, but they have the HD model to do that. But it's annoying to have Microsoft Works tell you that your screen resolution is lower than recommended. But the price on this model vs. the HD is so much better that I went with this model.
Lastly, the case does seem to attract fingerprints, but they are nice enough to include a cleaning cloth.
All in all a nice machine for what it is designed for. Small, light, usable for light tasks like e-mail, internet browsing, document editing.

The computer is a great little computer with a massive battery life. It does everything you need but needs a bit of an upgrade on the ram. Its slow for almost anyone. You cant have more then a couple things open without it slowing down. But great for the money.

I just purchased 8 Hp mini 210-1040NR for work. My intention was/is to upgrade the ram to 2GB and the HDD to 640GB WD drives. What I discovered after a painful week of debugging and contact with HP is the following:
Beware:
The new Intel Atom N450 chipset is buggy. Of the 8 computers 2 of them rejected the 2GB Crucial ram. I could take the same stick and install it in one (worked fine) install it in another (not work at all), but take a different Crucial 2GB stick and worked. So when upgrading the RAM one stick may work and another not work.
Next when I went to upgrade the HDD from the Toshiba 160GB stock drives to the WD 640 GB drives it was not bootable. I got a boot error HDD not found. This issue repeated itself on all 640GB WD drives in all HP's. An email to HP revealed a major fault. Due to new contractual regulations with Intel and Microsoft PC manufacturers producing netbooks with the new Intel Atom N450 processor are regulated to restrict HDD upgrades to under 250GB maximum capacity. Any HDD larger then 250GB will be rejected by the system to maintain contractual agreements with Intel and Microsoft.
The Intel Atom N450 also has the GMA built into the chipset. Color striations come across the top edge of the screen in certain situations.
This is not a problem with the Intel Atom N280 chipset using the GMA 950.
While the HP Mini 210-1040NR is not a bad computer and fairly well designed, if you are intending to go beyond the 250GB HDD capacity I recommend finding a netbook or notebook that does not have these unpublished restrictions with the Intel Atom N450 series chips.
