Best notebook BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. We just bought a travel trailer to start cruising the highways and byways. I wanted a small computer to take along to check emails and check out camping sites as we go and make reservations. The size is just right and I have no trouble seeing the screen (I'm 60 and use my reading glasses)and for now I am just peck typing as I am very fast on my desktop and will practice to get used to the slightly smaller keyboard. I took it to our small local town and got right on the internet in the parking lot of a cafe. I can also get internet at home as my son has a router for this laptop. I downloaded AVAST security (free) and am happy with just the Microsoft Works as I don't expect to be doing documents. I see no reason to upgrade to more Ram or full Windows 7. I run XP on my desktop and the transition was easy.
Be aware that the Blue netbook is NOT textured like the Black as described in most reviews. It is smooth and a lovely color. I can deal with the fingerprints. I find the mousepad a bit difficult scrolling. It is not that responsive to the two/three fingers they talk about. I just use the up and down arrows.
My son leaves his laptop plugged in and just closes the lid to put it to sleep. I did this after my netbook was fully charged and also when I unplugged it. WRONG!
When my techy friend came to help me set up some things the unit shut down and completely reloaded everything. It took forever and there was nothing I could do.
He said it was because I didn't properly SHUT DOWN each time. He has since put a shut down widget, clock and calandar on my desktop. When my desktop slugs out (times when it is SO slow) I now go to the netbook and find it is faster loading and on the internet. I find no need for "n" network. For under $300 it is the PERFECT netbook.

Very pleased with my Eee PC. It's fast, small, boots very quickly.....solid build, but what I have come to expect from Asus. Battery way outlasts my laptop. The 1 GB memory is ok, but I will be upgrading to 2GB after warranty is out. I r4commend a protective case, and a separate mouse.....I just don't like scroll pads. Very viewable screen...........excellent performer, especially fo0r the $$. The N450 is much better than the older N270 or N280's out there.

I was disappointed in my Dell's power supply (I've owned 3 of their laptops over the past 4 years) because they typically lasted around a year before acting up. Now with the Asus it's been 3 weeks of very occasional use and the power supply has quit completely. So here I am with a pretty black brick until I go buy a new part. I also have to agree with the other users about the brightness issues... Even in the shade outdoors it's all but impossible to use.

I am not a high tech person. For a baby booomer, I am better than many of my peers. The reason why I bought this is for word processing and reviewing documents on my USB key. Let me share with you my initial impressions:
1. There is this annoying message indicating that I have to enter the product key. After repeated efforts, the program will not accept it.
2. The keyboard is totally flat and difficult to work with. Big deal if it is 70%+/- the size of a regular keyboard. Now, I add a regular keyboard to type.
3. Service - I've gotten the run around - you know, hardware vs. software. I've asked if I need to purchase Windows 7, since the unit comes with Windows 7 Starter. I can't get a straight answer from anybody on the necessity of buying the entire software. So, if it turns out that Windows 7 is required, then add an additional $80-$160 to the price of this unit. This kinda sounds like buying a cheap printer and being gouged because of the high cost of print cartridges.
4. I don't want to leave you with the impression that I am totally unhappy with the unit. I wanted a unit for word processing and reading documents off of the USB. For that purpose, it works well. Also, I've down loaded the open office suite which is free.

This machine seems to do everything a netbook is supposed to do well. It has a clear display, boots up quickly and has long battery life. It doesn't come with a lot of software, but it has all the essentials. I'd recommend purchasing a compact mouse and a carrying case along with the computer. It comes equipped with Trend Micro virus protection which has to be paid for if you want to keep it. I deleted this and installed Microsoft's free Security Essentials, which seems fine.
